Website Optimization - Improve Organic Search Results

Website Optimization is a long-term marketing program aimed at increasing the presence of a website in the organic (natural) search listings that appear when a person does a keyword search on Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL or any other secondary search engine.

The basic idea behind website optimization is to bring the website in compliance with current search engine "Best Practices" standards so that when search engine spiders crawl the website, they are able to view the site correctly, index it within their data centers and rank the website according to keyword phrases that drive targeted, pre-qualified traffic to a company's website.

The process we go through involves the following:

  • Identification and analysis of traffic driving keyword phrases relevant to the company's products and/or services

  • Optimization of pages and content on those pages, within images and in each pages meta-tags to be keyword specific.

Once the initial website optimization is completed, we have to continue work each month building what is termed, link popularity. Link popularity is a factor that all search engines use when determining the positioning of keywords in their rankings. Link popularity is gained through a variety of methods including, blog postings, social networking and content promotion through articles, press releases, video, podcasts, etc.

If the work is not continued on a monthly basis, the website will never see top keyword rankings and will therefore have to find alternative methods to drive traffic. These alternative methods generally include purchasing keywords through sponsored links in each engine. Sponsored links are very effective and should always be run in conjunction with website optimization and promotion but having top organic (natural) keyword positions will allow a company to lower the dollar amount they need to spend on sponsored advertising.

In short, Website Optimization is the only "cost-effective" method of achieving large amounts of targeted traffic through online resources, which generates leads for service based industries and product sales for those companies with a product-based focus.

As mentioned above, Website Optimization is a long-term program that requires constant maintenance in order to achieve top keyword positions and maintain those positions in competitive online markets. Once your site has achieved those top rankings, traffic will flow freely and no additional cost other than the monthly management fees required to build a continued growth marketing program.

Do I Really Need Website Optimization?

Yes, you need to your website to be optimized as long as you are trying to gain organic (natural) keyword listings in Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN or any other search engine.

If you plan to only promote your website through pay per click advertising, then website optimization is not as important and can be left alone but in reality, it never hurts to have your site optimized - you may decide later to target organic search results.
